Dial-up connection
A dial-up connection is usually essential for having relative anonymity on the internet
(no one has complete anonymity).
There are two reasons for this:
1. A dial-up connection gives the user a random IP-address from a range of at least
256 different IP-addresses, so that the end-website cannot distinguish that one user from
the 256-plus other users of that IP-range.
2. The slowness of a dial-up connection is essential,
becuz it allows the user to halt the loading of a webpage by pressing the "escape" key,
mid-way through the page-loading.
That is important becuz it is usually the basic html that loads first,
and then privacy-violating stylesheets load subsequently,
such that dial-up connections allow the user to avoid the privacy-violating stylesheets.
Totalitarians within domestic intelligence agencies are aware of these facts,
and therefore, in recent years, they have been taking clandestine actions against dial-up connections,
as part of the broader ever-worsenning nadir.
Specificly, they have been sending letters, along with gag-orders,
which demand that various ISPs (internet service providers) terminate their dial-up connection option.
Most recently, the U.S. NSA (National Security Agency) has sent such a letter to
AOL (America OnLine), and it is scheduled to be implemented on september 30th of this year (2025).
The NSA had already sent meny of such letters to other, lesser-known ISPs,
which have already gone-into effect.
