The intergalactic red-shift is the progressiv red-shift of photons
which occurs over vast intergalactic distances.
A "red-shift" is a shift toward lower frequency, and thus lower energy.
In most cases, the distance between galaxies is roughly proportionate to the
degree of red-shift that occurs onto the photons which moove from one galaxy to the other,
but there are variations depending upon which directions the galaxies are mooving relative
to eachother, due to the doppler effect.
For example, photons from the Andromeda galaxy which reach the Milky Way galaxy are
blue-shifted (which means that they hav higher frequency and thus higher energy),
becuz those two galaxies are mooving toward eachother at such a speed that their
blue-shifting doppler effect exceeds the intergalactic red-shift.

There are some types of galaxies which have very high inherent red-shifts,
which means that all of the photons which leave them are highly red-shifted even before
they travel any distance.
Those types of galaxies are the quasar galaxies and the lyman-break galaxies.
In the case of the quasar galaxies, their gravity is so exceptionally powerful that
it causes a strong gravitational red-shift upon the escaping photons.
In the case of the lyman-break galaxies, there is so much hydrogen gas in the galaxy that
the photons which pass-through that gas transfer much of their energy to that gas,
due to radiativ transfer.

However, it must be noted that there are various astrophysicists of psychopathic
temperament who habitually lie by saying that quasars and lyman-break galaxies are
further-away than all other galaxies, becuz those astrophysicists desire to suppress
knowledge of the gravitational red-shift and the radiativ-transfer red-shift.

The intergalactic red-shift is mostly the result of radiativ-transfer (usually spelled
"radiative transfer") from the intergalactic photons onto the extremely sparse
hydrogen atoms in the intergalactic space.
Note that this is the same phenomenon which occurs in lyman-break galaxies,
but spread over vastly greater distances.

However, it must be noted that those same aforementioned astrophysicists of psychopathic
temperament habitually lie by saying that the intergalactic red-shift is caused by
the doppler effect and/or by the [made-up] cosmic expansion, and they make no mention of
radiativ transfer, becuz they desire to suppress the knowledge thereof.
The underlying purpose of such psychopathic truth-disrupting behavior is to try to make
astrophysics semi-conform to the insane creation-narrativ from The Book of Geneses,
which was written over 2500 years ago, back when people thot that
the earth is flat, and that Sol revolves around the earth, and that everything in existence
was created less than ten-thousand years ago, and that one or more gods do everything
that they do not understand.
Having a theistic religion is one thing, but corrupting science to make it conform to a
theistic religion, as these psychopathic astrophysicists do, is another thing.
