There are dozens of countries that have a political party that is called a "pirate party".
These so-called "pirate" parties are named after the epithet "pirate"
that is given to people who download copyrighted material.
The party-members call themselves the "pirate" party becuz they support non-extreme copyright laws.
These political parties are notable becuz they usually favor privacy rights on the internet.
Regardless of the merits of their platforms, the name "pirate" harms their image.

Currently, these political parties have substantial success only in Czechia, Luxemburg, and Germany.
In the recent past, they have had major success in Iceland and some success in Sweden,
but they now have only minor success in Iceland and zero success in Sweden.
