Migrants are animals or humans who change their living place,
whether permanently or not, and move to different places to live and or work.
Sometimes people migrate just for a few months and return back,
others permanently move out of their living places and settle somewhere else.
There are a lot of historical reasons & what not
as to why people have migrated elsewhere,
such as:
Various conflicts and wars,
Work or/and business reasons,
Wanting to live somewhere else.
And so on, and so on, and so on...

Migration of animals

Animals have different migration patterns from humans.
Usually they migrate between different climates on a seasonal basis,
so as to avoid temperatures that are harmful to them.
Many species of birds and whales are migrants,
whereas few humans are true migrants.

How US media outlets use the term "migrant"

This is significant becuz the U.S. newsmedia oligopoly perpetrates
psychopathic gaslighting behavior by falsely calling the illegal immigrants
to the U.S. and Europe "migrants",
so as to give a false impression that they are "just passing through",
and are aimless wanderers, and will move-on to somewhere else.
Such gaslighting behavior has not yet been criminalized.
The U.S. newsmedia didnot always do this;
in the past, the U.S. newsmedia called them illegal immigrants or illegals.

The truth is that such people intend to stay, and have deliberately
and spitefully targeted countries and peoples whose relative rationality and
relative responsibility, especially in regard to overpopulation,
has resulted in greater economic prosperity than that of one's own people.
Thus, they are trying to obstruct natural consequences, both for themselves
and for the countries which they target.
